“Every artist was first an amateur.”
Your teen will love this camp
This is a summer camp that offers a unique, creative experience. Teens will be immersed in many styles of portrait photography & will use their digital camera OR smartphone camera to create artistic portraits.
Students learn how to:
Direct and pose their subjects with confidence
Use natural light and studio lighting
Create emotional, story-driven portraits
Edit images for a polished, professional look
By the end of the week, students will have curated a portfolio of creative portraits they can proudly display.
If they want to pursue a photography career, they will end their week with confidence to start their creative journey.
More than technical skills, they gain confidence in themselves, their voice, and their creative abilities.
The Creative Teen Photography Starter Guide
If you have a creative teen who loves taking photos but isn’t quite sure how to make them better, this free guide is a great place to start.
Inside, I’ll walk through simple lighting concepts, portrait tips, and creative habits that help teens gain confidence behind the camera — whether they’re shooting on a phone or a digital camera.
This is the same foundation I teach inside Charleston Photography Camp.
Meet your teacher
I’ve been a Charleston photographer for over 20 years!
When I studied photography in college, I shot exclusively on film and spent countless hours in the darkroom. A lot has changed since then. These days, I shoot just as much with my “fancy” DSLRs as I do with my iPhone, because mastering both really matters now.
Running a summer camp for teens has been a dream of mine for the last 15 years, and in 2026, Charleston Photography Camp was finally born.
Over the past five years, I’ve worked closely with many teenagers, teaching photography and videography one-on-one. Watching their confidence grow and their creativity come to life has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career — and I can’t wait to collaborate with even more young creatives in the years ahead.
