The Creative Teen Photography Starter Guide

Inside, I’ll walk through simple lighting concepts, portrait tips, and creative habits that help teens gain confidence behind the camera — whether they’re shooting on a phone or a digital camera.

Meet your teacher
I’ve been a Charleston photographer for over 20 years!
When I studied photography in college, I shot exclusively on film and spent countless hours in the darkroom. A lot has changed since then. These days, I shoot just as much with my “fancy” DSLRs as I do with my iPhone, because mastering both really matters now.
Running a summer camp for teens has been a dream of mine for the last 15 years, and in 2026, Charleston Photography Camp was finally born.
Over the past five years, I’ve worked closely with many teenagers, teaching photography and videography one-on-one. Watching their confidence grow and their creativity come to life has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career — and I can’t wait to collaborate with even more young creatives in the years ahead.
